WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

You will be guided, step by step, by Professors of the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara,   specialized teachers of the Professional Institute for Marble Industry and Artisanship P.Tacca (IPSAM) of Carrara and professional artists.
laboratorioThe lessons will take place in the spacious sculpting laboratories of the above mentioned schools  providing individual workspace and tables, with the guidance of the true masters of marble sculpture.  Language/translation assistance will also be provided by Tutors of the organization.
You will decide what you want to sculpt. You are required to send your sketches and inform us on the measurements of the marble piece that you will need for your work (see Booking info).  You will also have the possibility of return shipments of your sculpture to your country (see Additional Services).
From the very first approach to the final piece,  you will be assisted by the constant presence of teachers while you acquire knowledge of the characteristics of marble, the use of sculpting tools and sculpting techniques.
33All of the material needed for the courses will be provided for your use (marble, plaster, carving tools). You will receive a free safety equipment kit with accessories (safety glasses, gloves, apron, bandana).  The organization will provide you with personal insurance coverage (see Insurance

Note well:  The daily schedule may vary at the discretion of the organization.

Afternoon Trips:
391) An afternoon will be dedicated to a guided visit to the Marble Quarries of Carrara which is a magnificent experience in itself.  Attention will be placed on the methods of excavation, types of quarries and the varieties of marble available.
2) The course will also be integrated with an afternoon visit to a local Studio of Sculpture in order to see professional sculptors while they work.  You may admire their sculptures in execution along with finished works.  As they welcome you, they will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding their sculptures and individual techniques.
663) The third excursion will be a visit to the archaeological site of Luni (SP), a city of roman origin of the II° century B.C.  In particular, we will find the remains of the centre, the walls, the Grand Temple, the Forum.  The Odeon (the amphitheatre) is also quite impressive for visitors as its form and structure recall the great classical amphitheatres.
